2013 Cycling

January

The George, Ashley

John Newitt made an early morning trip all the way from Bromsgrove to join us for our first ride of 2013. John was severely punished for his cheek. (That's what hurt next day)

We were joined at The George by Mary and Kevin Brewin, caught up with the past "phew" years and set the world to rights before pedalling off into the sunset.

The Royal Arms, Sutton Cheney

Starting from Bosworth Battlefield Centre and riding anticlockwise to find new roads in one of our favourite areas. Not too many hills to keep us warm on a misty winters day.

Nine riders showed enough dedication (?) to turn out when they could have been safely watching day-time TV. No competition!

Bulls Head, Thringstone

Another historical walk ... or should that be histerical? This week we explored Grace Dieu Priory and then recced the cycle route that we lost last year.

Eight of us walked to Whitwick and then we all ran back to the Bulls Head before the wrinklies could beat us to the bar.

The Bell, Gumley

With deep snow and a hard frost we took an early decision to walk rather than risk cycling. We walked over Saddington Tunnel on the Grand Union Canal then picked up a section of the Leicestershire Round to Gumley.

Our route back took us down the road by Saddington Water where we found a van had failed to make it up the hill, slipped backwards downhill and become stuck.

Blue Bell, Hoby

After last week's snow eight of us turned out on a very windy but beautifully sunny day. Cool in the shade and wet under our wheels with some flooding but bags of fresh air.

The Blue Bell provided us with delicious food and drink to set us up for heading into the wind on our return journey. Derek decided to keep pumping up a slow puncture rather than delay the ride with a full repair.
