2014 Cycling

February

Railway Inn, Glenfield

With the rest of the country suffering storms and flooding, eleven riders set off with optimism. The morning stayed dry and the wind wasn't to strong so we all arrived at Abbey Park cafe on time. From there we set off for Great Central Way cycle route to Glenfield and the Railway Inn.

After our lunch and suitably refreshed the group divided, some returning home northward and others finding a new route south. No photos of this bit cos it rained.

Wheel & Compass, Weston by Welland

After suitable penitence and a week without cussing or wickedness we were back to enjoying sunshine. Our route took us briefly into Northants then back to Weston by Welland for lunch at the Wheel & Compass, two years since our last visit.

Our route back was a short cut along Welham Lane to Great Bowden. Plenty of puddles but a good surface for cycling and not very much traffic.

Back in Harborough we had time to relax over a coffee at the Leisure Centre before making our way home.

Blue Bell, Hoby

This week nine riders started from Syston and rode out along familiar roads to explore Asfordby.

We kept in the Syston area, heading back into the teeth of the wind for lunch at our old favourite, The Blue Bell at Hoby.

We returned to Syston straight after lunch so that friends could say farewell to Les Freestone at the Parish Church.

Royal Horseshoes Inn, Waltham

Nine riders explored new roads east of Melton, through Wymondham, pausing at the Windmill Tea Rooms.

From there we were detoured back via Sproxton and Stonesby, carefully avoiding King Street Lane (maybe a road to try after a long dry period?) to Waltham where the reception was excellent - geddit?

We watched the pouring rain from inside the Royal Horseshoes then chased to clouds back for a coffee at Melton Country Park. Another dry and sunny ride!
