2014 Cycling

November

Red Lion, Huncote

On the first cold day of the winter we cycled to Mallory Park for a warming coffee but the café was closed. So we made do with our banana break then continued to Barwell for coffee.

Even though we have ridden this area many time we still managed to find new, quiet roads back to the Red Lion for lunch.

Nick joined us for lunch. We may need to phone ahead to pubs before turning up mob handed on the approach to the festive season.

Old Red Lion, Welham

Nine embers set off from Fleckney for a ride in the mud and up hills ... and up muddy hills. It was all worthwhile because we found refuge, refreshments and Nick at the Old Red Lion in Welham.

From there we took a short-cut back straight to The Well at Kibworth where we ate all their cake.

No mud on the way back and we had the wind behind us.

Ulverscroft Grange

Eight out of ten riders cycled to our muster station today. That seriously extended our core 20 miles. As Bob and Peter were not planning to return to Mountsorrel, Jan thoughtfully packed then up with some cake. Today we tackled some of the big hills in the county so it was "walking with bicycles".

Our ride took us to Ulverscroft Grange for lunch where there is appropriately a "Support and Wellbeing Centre". In fact Nick came out to support us in scoffing our food. Then we returned via Bradgate Park to be fed more cake by Jan.

Rose and Crown, Tilton

Ten Embers took Derek's new bicycle out for a trial run and what a trial it proved.

It seems that no matter how old you are there are always undiscovered roads just round the corner.

We chose a muddy route to the Rose and Crown in Tilton on the Hill and Richard Sleath walked the final half mile to the pub with a flat tyre.

On our way back Dave had a puncture so it's lucky we let him practice on our tyres.
