Grants, Burrough-on-the-Hill

Five Embers took the the hills, not without some mechanical problems.

At least they reached a pub by midday.

... and home before dark.

White Horse, Old

Back up to double figures today and welcoming Helen putting in some practice for our Embers Exmouth Tour.

Our wanderings took us back to the White Horse, an Old favourite - geddit?

The weather was better than forecast and we had a brisk following wind for the return and a long downhill section back to Market Harborough.

The day was completed with coffee and cake at the Leisure Centre.

Red Lion, Market Bosworth

Richard Sleath guided a dozen Embers on the route of Richard III funeral cortège. Nick Reeves accompanied us for the first few miles.

Unlike the old king, we had the advantage of beer and a hot meal at the Red Lion in Market Bosworth where we were met by Richard Clark.

We also paused for coffee and cake at Kirby Muxloe. All good practice for our coming tour.

Bay Grand Hotel, Exmouth

No sooner had the Embers Tour Party arrived than the bikes were unloaded and we were off for a short ride to work up a thirst.

On Tuesday all thirteen riders again took to the roads and tracks into a headwind to Exeter. A few short hills along the estuary but a dry day that we made up for in the bar later.

Drink tokens were used in the bar before lunch then a small band walked to the Powder Monkey before returning for a nightcap.

Wednesday was down on numbers due to the Hotel being struck by a virus. Nevertheless a small group headed for Sidmouth on a route that included Peak Hill. A day of attrition.

By Thursday just five riders took the estuary trail round to Dawlish on a well maintained track. There they met another four Embers who travelled by train and bus.

By the end of the tour we were still keen to get started, but this time for home after almost everyone had been caught by the virus.
