Wheel and Compass, Weston by Welland

A chill wind blew eleven Embers east from Fleckney. We took our banana break at then cycled the pretty route within a couple of miles of Corbybefore heading back to the Wheel and Compass at Weston by Welland for lunch where we had to compete for our food with another cycling group.

Our return was into the teeth of the wind to The Well at Kibworth. After coffee the group split up for journeys home.

George Elliot, Nuneaton

A dozen Embers assembled at Bosworth Heritage Centre and then set off south towards Warwickshire to scour the shire for provisions.

As soon as we crossed the A5 border into Warwickshire we joined an excellent cycle route straight to Nuneaton and the George Eliot Hotel where we stopped for lunch

We took a different route back but made sure it included Sutton Wharf Cafe so that we could satisfy our craving for more cake.

What more evidence do you need that spring is here?

White Lion, Whissendine

Ten Embers gathered at Melton Country Park before setting off due south through the town and onto National Cycle Route 64 to Little Dalby where we paused for our banana break. Then we pushed on to Whissendine and spent a few minutes in St Andrews Church before gravitating back down the hill to the White Lion for their Senior Citizens Luncheon.

Then a straighter route back to Sainsburys at Melton to partake our afternoon coffee and cake.

The Elms, Lutterworth

Lucky thirteen Embers assembled at Lutterworth Spots Centre on a bright spring day for a jaunt through Swinford, Welford, North and South Kilworth and Walcote back to The Elms at Lutterworth for an excellent carvery lunch.

Four of our riders needed to cycle back towards the City so we lured them to Palmers garden centre cafe at Ullesthorpe for coffee and cake before bidding them farewell and returning to Lutterworth.

A bakers dozen outside Stanford Hall. L to R Ian Bower, Grahame Billington, Dave Parry, Richard Sleath, John Muschialli, Mick Ayriss, John Ashworth, Richard Clark, Bob Nash, Ben Crossley, Derek Jordan, Peter Wright and Simon Over. Roll to zoom, click to grab and drag.

We now feel sufficiently prepared for the challenge of Weston Super Mare - at least, the eating challenge. Take a look at our Annual Tour page to see how we did.
