White Horse, Quorn

Twelve Embers out today to ride familiar roads in the Charnwood area and to do a spot of train spotting. Taking the pretty route over Bradgate Park and through Swithland Woods, we joined quite a few steam enthusiasts on the bridge between Rushey Lane and Kinchley Lane.

We then made our way into Quorn to the White Horse for a well earned lunch. Then to Quorn and Woodhouse Station for tea at the café before retracing our route down Kinchley Lane for a last dose of nostalgia.

Today many riders had cycled from their homes and some departed at this point. The rest of us returned to Mush's where Jan welcomed us with tea and ... cakes!

The Roebuck, Market Harborough

Another Friday cycle ride because Thursday's weather did not reach the high standard expected by Embers. Regretably this reduced us to nine riders who met at Fleckney in weather that didn't appear to be much of an improvement. So we quickly made our way to The Well in Kibworth for coffee and (in Bob's case) breakfast. From there we took a hilly route south to Market Harborough, reaching The Roebuck just in time for lunch.

Our route back tried to avoid the biggest hills but only substitute different ones. Our journey, in slowly improving weather, was punctuated by one puncture and another cake stop back at The Well. All's well that ends well.

Harrington Arms, Elvaston and
Malt Shovel, Shardlow

Twelve Embers set off along the Cloud Trail from Worthington, following a familiar traffic free and level track until reaching Route 66. We then peeled off towards Shardlow - in a roundabout way.

It's always nice to discover new routes. Or more exactly, we're always glad when we find our way to a pub.

Today we found our way to the Harrington Arms in Elvaston but it was very full so half of the group, made their way to the Malt Shovel. in Shardlow, accompanied by Tony Loach.

After lunch we regrouped for the ride back through Ashby on Trent (for ice creams) and Weston on Trent to rejoin the Cloud Trail back to base.

Drawing into winter with our November rides.
