2018 Cycling

Masarella Café, Nottingham

The Beast from the East put paid to thoughts of cycling this week. "Mad Embers and English men go out in the Midday Snow, others don't dare to or care to." Snow, ice and wind chill of -10° meant bus and tram trip today.

Some Embers collected at St Margarets, Leicester then travelled to Baxter Gate in Loughborough to meet up with the others for their onward journey across snow covered landscape for lunch at Masarella Café.

Royal Horseshoes, Waltham on the Wolds

After casting around for someone to blame for bringing us out on such a dire day, we quickly convened an impromptu confab in the nearest café. There we indulged in a casual game of Spot the Penguin.

Then it was onward for a day of rain, hills, headwinds, snow and big meat pies at the Royal Horseshoes before returning for (more) cake at Melton Sainsburys.

Wharf Inn, Welford

First ride this year with a full turn out of Embers, so a group photo was called for. Roll your mousewheel to zoom into the ugly details.

From left to right: Back Row - Dave Parry, Mick Ayriss, Grahame Billington, John Ashworth, Ian Bower, Richard Clark, Richard Sleath, Bob Nash and Derek Jordan.
Kneeling - Ben Crossley, Peter Wright, Simon Over and John Muschialli.

We then set off through Swinford, past Stanford Hall and out to Welford for lunch at the Wharf Inn, where we were joined by Spike to make sure we didn't sit thirteen for lunch.

On the way back we (almost) had sunshine but we (definitely) had a downpour of rain. So we were glad to dry out at Karters with a coffee and cake.

Embers Annual Tour - Morecambe

This year's Embers Annual Tour has its own page of photographs.

Wheatsheaf, Edith Weston

Five Embers out today. Started off sunny as we cycled to Wing and onwards to Hartington. From there cycled to Ketton but unfortunately the pub was closed. Finished up in the Wheatsheaf at Edith Weston for a good lunch.

Called into the usual garden centre for tea and cake. A very hilly ride but an enjoyable day.
