2018 Cycling

The Shires, Peatling Parva

Embers don't let a drab morning spoil their cycling. We donned our rain proofs soon after starting and sheltered in Arnesby when we took our banana break. Then quickly onward to The Shires, Peatling Parva for a festive carvery.

Then, spitting tinsel, we had a brighter ride back to Kibworth for coffee and cake in The Well.

Bulls Head, Thringstone

Eleven Embers gathered at the car park behind the Bulls Head in Thringstone. We threaded out way down country roads trying to avoid the busy main roads. After our banana break we had to head back for our lunch. A short cut down a muddy track proved to be counter-productive. Luckily Bob and Nick kept our table reservation at the Bulls Head where we tucked into a hearty carvery.

After lunch we set off again up the hills to Holy Joe's where the pary separated for our rides back in a setting sun and cold wind.

The Elms, Lutterworth

Eleven Embers embarked for The Elms on a circular loop that went out almost to Welford before making a bee line back to base.

Grahame didn't ride with the group but cycled all the way out from Syston to meet us for lunch and then a coffee at Karters Cafe from where we all took our different ways home.

Old Red Lion, Market Bosworth

A great day out was had by all with a special task to shake off the mince pies and Christmas pud legacy. Ten intrepid riders set out from various locations to meet at the battle field centre by Market Bosworth. One even cycling in from Syston 21 miles away.

Although vehicular traffic was light a large number of others had the same idea today to go out cycling or running to burn off the excesses of the last few days and many greetings were exchanged with a holiday atmosphere prevailing. The weather was also very kind with no wind and no rain and even temperatures co-operated at up to plus 10 degrees.

The route was west from the battlefield centre to Ratcliffe Culey then north east to Barton in the Beans followed by a southerly route to our normal public house venue Ye Old Red Lion in Market Bosworth. After lunch a quick southerly trip took us to Sutton Wharf for further sustenance then back to the cars at the battlefield centre or directly home.

Happy New Year to all.
