2020 Cycling

February fill-dyke by Benjamin Williams Leader at Birmingham Museum. No, we didn't go that way.

Toby Inn, Binley

Embers who cycled to our start point in Lutterworth had a frosty ride. By the time ten Embers had assembled the sun was bright in the blue sky. We set off south to Stretton under Foss for a cuppa in Rebecca's Kitchen in the Malt Kiln Farm Shop. Then we pushed on to the Toby Carvery at Binley.

We then retraced our route, avoiding the cross country track to Coombe Abbey that we follow in drier seasons. We paused again for more refreshments at Stretton under Foss.

We are all in favour of winter days like this one.

The Barn, Willey

The Embers, not being betting men, didn't gamble on the Met Office getting their forecast right. We stuck to our regular Thursday and the day turned out just fine as you can see in our photos.

Fields were flooded and streams swollen by recent rain but we managed to reach the Barn at Willey with only a couple of very light showers to encourage us.

We sauntered back via Palmers at Ullesthorpe and then it was mostly downhill with the wind behind us all the way home.

White Horse, Quorn

Seven Embers cycled from Mush's to the Bradgate Park cafe for tea and cake. Then on to the White Horse in Quorn for lunch.

Then back to Mush's for tea and cake. Round trip was 16 miles.

Golden Fleece, Stamford

Fourteen Embers (counting Spike the hedgehog) braved the blizzard for a ride from Manton to Stamford. Actually the snow didn't turn up so we had sunny blue skies all day.

We started as we intended to go on, with a coffee at Wellies Tea Room then headed to Empingham for our banana break. We reached the Golden Fleece in Stamford with a brisk following wind.

Our ride back was a bit tougher with a long, steep hill and a stiff headwind. But we returned to Wellies in good time for tea and cake.

We may never believe a weather forecast again.

Blow on into March.
