Admiral Rodney, Southwell

Ten Embers ignored the weather forecast and paused for a banana break during the only shower to wet the day.

After lunch at the Admiral Rodney in Southwell it was a warm return ride that put us in need of further refreshments. We were allowed 'em at Jo-hanna's Cafe in Lowdham.

On Friday five Embers took advantage of better weather to cycle to Rothley Station. There they met Kathy Lines, out with her sister.

This week many Embers cycled miles between them.

Royal Horse, Warwick

I think warm and wet sums up the day. We followed an old favourite route to Leamington and did 32 miles as a joint ride. Five of the eight rode in from outlying areas so did more.

The Hungry Horse pub was disappointing this time with burnt steak and a late meal. But we had a beer, got fed and sheltered from the drizzle for a while. It was still good to get out and about.

This week many Embers cycled miles between them.

Ragley Boat Stop, Barrow on Trent

A new venue enticed seven embers to meet at Hartshorne near Swadlincote. Our roundabout route was generally north. A coffee stop at Foremark Reservoir was followed by lunch at the Ragley Boat Stop pub just south of Derby. Well done VJ for the route.

The way back took in Melbourne where we had coffee and the group split with four going home via the Cloud Trail and the remainder managing to get back to Hartshorne before the rain started.

This week many Embers cycled miles, starting from various locations.

The Durham Ox, Shrewley

Although we were threatened with rain and high winds, six Embers have learnt to take the weather forecast with a pinch of salt. Starting from Kenilworth, we passed the castle and then rode five miles across fields along the Millennium Way. We risked the ghosts of Warwick County Lunatic Asylum at Hatton then crossed the A4177 to the Shell petrol station for our banana break.

From there we continued south over the Grand Union Canal, railway and M40 motorway in a fruitless search for a pub, eventually turning west to the Durham Ox at Shrewley. We then returned on country lanes with a following wind and sunshine.

This week many Embers cycled miles between them.

Appleby Inn, Appleby Parva

Speeding along familiar roads, we were at risk of arriving at our pub before noon. We needed to kill time by either riding a bit further or pausing at a cafe. Guess which we chose..

Our route back from the Appleby Inn was the reverse of our outward journey but, instead of refreshments at the Cutting Garden Cafe, we waited until Snibston Colliery Cafe.

On the fifth ride in August many Embers cycled miles between them.

Hoping for an Indian Summer in September.
