Wheatsheaf, Thurcaston

After yesterday's day full of rain a small number of Embers rode from Ratby via Bradgate Park for lunch in the Wheatsheaf Thurcaston enjoying a cold and dry cycle ride.

A mostly uneventful ride except for entry to Bradgate and an incident involving the car park barrier. Nothing like a smack in the face when the barrier comes down and your fellow Embers' kind words of ridicule. Happy days.

Roebuck, Market Harborough

Twelve Embers met at Fleckney café the Toast Office. Using Ben’s local knowledge he led us on a merry dance for the day. Though for someone disliking hills he certainly found some with over 1400 feet ascended. First we headed south to Saddington reservoir then on to Gumley for the banana break. We then turned south towards Lubenham and finally to Market Harborough for lunch. This was taken at our usual haunt the Roebuck where they tried to fool us by changing the pub sign half way though our meal.

After lunch we returned on a different route north and westwards to Great Bowden. From there we passed by Gartree Prison enjoying our freedom as we did. Then back to Gumley but there turning north to Kibworth via Smeeton Westerby. Half of the group stopped for coffee in Kibworth but the rest returned to Fleckney and then home. A great day out with cold but good weather and no mechanical issues.

The Elms, Lutterworth

For the last meeting of the season nine Embers rode out today (Friday) avoiding yesterday’s downpour. The day was bright and clear and obviously cold being 6 days away from Christmas. Wishbone planned a good route which took seven of us from Huncote across to Narborough then south to Croft to meet Nigel and Kathy. We then headed to Broughton Astley for coffee at The Breakfast Nook which was under new ownership. After this the route took us to Ashby Magna, Gilmorton and finally to The Elms pub in Lutterworth.

Following lunch we headed to the garden centre in Ullesthorpe but as time was getting on we decided not to partake of coffee and headed back. One Ember headed straight home from there and the other eight went via Ashby Parva, Leire and Broughton Astley to Cosby. There the group split again with two going off towards Blaby while the last four headed back to Huncote. A really enjoyable way to finish off the year.
