Shakespeare Rally

Early on Friday morning, 24 September 1993, the following participants met in front of my house: Hans Mondorf (BMW K100RS), Axel Bodeit (Moto Guzzi T3), Harald Bodeit (Suzuki GS750 with Dnepr sidecar), Jürgen Krechel (BMW K100), Dieter Mundorf Honda (CB 900F Bol d'Or) and Karl Heinz Poppe (BMW R100GS).

Ahead of us lay 450 km of motorway to the Hoverport in Calais. The usual route via Cologne, Aachen, Liege, Charleroi, Lille, Dunkirk to Calais. We mastered the route without any problems.

Harald Bodeit set the pace with his Suzuki GS 750 with Dnepr sidecar. A short ride (flight) with the hovercraft to the port in Dover.

From there on to the Maidstone service station on the M20 for a short lunch.

Refreshed and strengthened, on to The Four Alls pub in Welford on Avon.

Like every year, we first set up the tents before we drink our first pint.

The usual cozy Friday evening in the pub with many famous people.

A trip on Saturday morning after a delicious English breakfast to Wellesbourne Airfield Market.

Then to the Burton Dassett Hills where the group photo was taken. Left to right: Harald Bodeit, Jurgen Krechel, Hans Mondorf, Axel Bodeit, Dieter Mundorf, Karl Heinz Poppe.

Saturday evening in the pub with good food and cold beer (lager).

Once again the prize for the furthest journey on the continent went to us, as we were the only ones from there, as is so often the case.

The journey home was also problem-free.

Unfortunately, less than a month later we had to carry our motorcycle friend Harald Bodeit to the grave. He couldn't win the fight against his illness. His Suzuki GS 750 with a Dnepr sidecar is still owned by his brother Axel today.

Pictures of the Continental Long Distance Award tankard for the Henry IV Shakespeare series rally in 1993, treasured by the son of Harald Bodeit.

Programme

Another excellent puzzle square from Heather MacGregor who left a few cryptic clues at the bottom of page 3 indicating there are 22 names and 17 letters over.

'If all the year were playing holidays,
To sport would be as tedious as to work.'
Henry IV, Pt.I, Act I, Sc.ii.

a variety of colours, XL, L, and M, at £12, and
small ones a blue only at £6 - T-Shirts are
available at £7, Black only, XL, L, and M.

Trophies will be presented during Saturday evening
to those deemed worthy to be placed on a pedestal.

'Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown'
Part II, Act III, Sc. i.

The Shakespeare Club's version of Carol Vorderman,
our very own Heather McGregor, has yet been able
to invent another quiz, which appears on the next
page, and will test even the most erudite amongst
you.

'It was alway yet the trick of our English nation,
if they have a good thing, to make it too common'
Part II, Act I, Sc. ii.

This one was done in a bit of a rush so
there's a chance of finding the deliberate
mistake' (I couldn't!)
To keep you occupied and to give
mum something to do as well) I've added
an extra bit. When you have finished the
word square there should be 17 letters
left over. These will spell a corny
message.
If anyone really wants to know, the
22 names in the square are all characters in
either Henry IV Part One or Part Two!
See me for prizes as usual.
