Shakespeare Rally
Richard II in January 1996 was the 10th year in a row at a Shakespeare rally for Axel Bodeit and me. Once again, early in the morning of January 5th, the trip went to England. Axel drove ahead with his Moto Guzzi 850 T3 and set the pace. I followed him on my BMW R90S winter motorcycle. The fault on my BMW that had occurred a year earlier at the Henry VIII Rally was kindly rectified by Paul Mullis.
The usual route to the ferry and on towards Ettington to the pub The Houndshill.

The tent was pitched and then into the fun in the pub by the open fireplace.
Saturday a trip to Stratford upon Avon and then to a Shire Horse farm nearby. There we watched knight tournament games with these great horses. Then we took a seat on a trailer that was pulled by a huge Shire Horse stallion and made a short tour. Afterwards we enjoyed cake and tea in the farm's own cafe.
The two evenings in the pub with many familiar faces with good food and a few pints as always a pleasure.
The way home on Sunday went without incident. That was the year you want it to be, without any problems.
Oh yes, of course we received another tankard for the longest journey from the continent.
