Bye Bye Bill

Friday 27 May 2011

Bill Langley was a club member right from the very beginning, through into the 1970s. He was always excellent company with his droll humour and infectious enthusiasm. Sadly Bill passed away in May 2011 so a few friends saw him off as he would have wished it - on motorcycles.

We met the procession at a layby near Ashby de la Zouch. The weather stayed fine and dry but very blustery.

As well as Mick and Helen Ayriss, Dave Scrivens, Phil Freestone and Peter Wright on motorcycles, Nev Baum, Derek Foster and Ben Crossley also attended to support Bill's wife Sue and family.

From Ashby bypass to Bretby Crematorium is about five miles and it was ridden much slower than was Bill's usual style.

After an appropriate service, we left the chapel to the strains of Lonnie Donegan Puttin On The Style.

It felt as though Bill was still with us as we gathered for refreshments at the Chesterfield Arms.

We half expected to see Bill's cheery face in the throng. He was there, in everyone's hearts and memories.

Thanks for sharing your time with us Bill. Bon voyage.

Start of quotation Please thank all those who came to Bill's funeral. I know this sounds strange but I really enjoyed it. Memories came flooding back and I know Bill would have had a lot of good times to look back on.

Hope to keep in touch End of quotation
