2015 Cycling

Lime Kilns, Hinckley

Ten Embers met at Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre although four riders began their ride from Kirby Muxloe. Instead of following familiar roads we set off along the Ashby Canal tow path.

Our adventure included lots of mud and even a fallen tree to be surmounted. We also sheltered from a heavy shower under one bridge and mended punctures under another. Eventually we reached the Lime Kilns pub on Watling Street just below Hinckley.

After lunch we began to make our way back on the road, pausing to fix a couple more punctures and to pump up tyres.

We were in time for a coffee and cake at Sutton Wharf from where we departed separate ways.

Golden Fleece, Stamford

A late change to Friday provided eight Embers with some sunshine for their ride from Manton.

Lunch was taken at the Golden Fleece in Stamford where we have been thrown out of before.

Our day is not complete until we have eaten our cake.

Cocked Hat, Binley

It's still possible to find new routes over familiar ground, especially if a road is closed.

Ten Embers took to the fields and bridleways to reach the Cocked Hat in Binley. Not everyone was as keen to play in the mud on the way back.

Obligatory coffee and cake was taken in warm sunshine at the Malt Kiln Farm Shop in Stretton under Fosse

Ring O Bells, Loughborough

Eight Embers gathered at Grace Dieu Priory to begin their pilgrimage to a pub. We made penitence by crawling up a steep and muddy track on the cycle route through Shepshed into Loughborough.

We made good time on our ride and were beating on the door of the Ring O Bells bang on noon.

After lunch we had a long and unforgiving climb up Nanpanton Hill. The route to heaven cannot be this difficult. At last we found sanctuary at St Joseph's Tea Room.

After coffee and cake we split up with John and Derek heading to Rothley while the rest returned to Grace Dieu.

Here comes summer - well, June anyway
