The Elms, Lutterworth

Eleven Embers came out to play. Welcome back to Ricardo who acquitted himself admirably after his foot fix. As usual when we start from Cosby, it was a struggle to get everyone out of the Nook Cafe and onto the road. From there we made straight for The Elms at Lutterworth for their carvery.

Then it was a race (slowly) back to the Nook Cafe for more coffee and ... er ... cake.

Bulls Head, Thringstone

Another delayed ride so Rupert sent this message...

Rupert changed the day again
Because the forecast is for rain.
If you can't make Friday, never mind,
Another Thursday is close behind.

To which new rider Mick Perry replied...

I can't make Friday, oh what a bother.
Yes I know there'll soon be another.
I'll be thinking of Rupert and all of his chums
Pedalling like mad, getting sore bums.

I'm soon off on hols, oh what a treat.
So it will be a while before we meet.
So for now I wish all the Embers good cheer
And promise to join them early next year.

So it was just seven Embers cycling on Friday and keeping the mileage low. A quick loop through Belton and Shepshed saw us returning for lunch at the Bulls Head via St Bernards (Monastery, not Pass!) and then along the muddy track to Grace Dieu.

If it wasn't for the lure of tea and cakes we might have finished there. But we felt compelled to return to Holy Joe's to get our money's worth out of the day.

Grainstore Brewery, Oakham

We were riding on Thursday this week, come hell or high water, because we had arranged to meet Tony Bradley at the Grainstore Brewery in Oakham. After pre-ride refreshments at Wellies Coffee Shop we almost had sunshine as we rode round Rutland Water.

Tony Bradley, Jan and John Muschialli were waiting for us at the brewery. By the time we had finished lunch and set off back the weather was turning for the worse and we had rain for the last few miles. We compensated with a final coffee in the Horse and Jockey back at Manton.

That concludes our adventures in 2019.
Take a look at January 2020.
