Octoberclick for this month's league table

COVID-19, Week 29

Southern Embers commuted along the Great Central Way and canal to Abbey Park then onward to Birstall, Sileby, Barrow and Quorn for lunch. Returned via Abbey Park for ice creams.

Six Northern Embers did a short ride, of 20 miles, around Leicestershire today. Got lost in a field taking a shortcut to Keyham. Stopped for a pie and a pint at The Cheney Arms, Gaddesby.

Eastern Embers cycled south of Oundle, only one short shower, found a pub for a pie and a pint.

There were many riders setting off into October and cycling miles including Helen with Mick on Monday.

COVID-19, Week 30

Wednesday

Western Embers split from Southern Embers due to a) Group size exceeding six and b) Better weather forecast for Wednesday. Thus four riders headed from Coalville to the Appleby Magna Inn. They arrived far too early so detoured to MacDonalds for a coffee. Their return route retraced the outward journey with the addition of a cake break at the Alpaca Farm Park Tea Rooms just east of Snarestone. Good to have Bob out using his bike rack for the first time.

Mick Perry chose Wednesday for a solo ride this week.

Thursday

Southern Embers Thirsty riders cycled to their start at Coalville and then to Appleby Magna for lunch, taking occasional shelter (and cake) along the way.

Eastern Embers went all the way to Gainsborough to explore the lanes in the area for future poste Covid group rides.

We also had a North East Ember out and about near Waltham, judging from the photo.

Friday

Northern Embers cycled on a new route to Ruddington today. Stopped off at The Frame Breakers, in Ruddington, for a pie and a pint. Then home again before the rain.

Adding together all many riders this week comes to miles.

COVID-19, Week 31

Northern Embers cycled from Syston to Tilton on the Hill for a pie and a pint at The Rose & Crown. Tilton is one of the highest villages in Leicestershire at 719 feet above sea level, not really high in the whole scheme of this but our knees don't agree!

Southern Embers gathered at Lutterworth and then negotiated Magna Park roadworks and the A5 for an onward journey to the Toby Inn at Binley by way of Malt Kiln Farm Shop for refreshments.

Eastern Embers cycled around Corby. No more shorts now but not a bad day to be about.

There were many riders who covered miles between them.

COVID-19, Week 32

Eastern Embers cycled from Willington to near Uttoxeter along the Dove valley, enjoying a brilliant autumn day.

Southern Ember Peter self-isolated on today's ride but covered the same area as the main group. It is surprising we didn't meet, we seemed to see everyone else out on this gorgeous day.

Two Northern Embers started from Syston. Picked up two more in Thrussington, then another one in Ashfordby. Headed for Belvoir Castle. Stopped at The Dirty Duck for a pie and pint. Headed home through Melton and back to Syston.

There were many riders our on this fine day and they cycled miles...

... and the less said about Tim's punctures the better!

COVID-19, Week 33

Southern Embers cycled on a wet Thursday morning, but hot chocolate at Thurlaston garden centre, and great lunch at Red Lion helped. Route was, Thurlaston, Earl Shilton, Kirby Mallory, Barwell, Burbage Common, Stoney Stanton, Huncote Red Lion.

The other cardinals postponed their cycling to Friday.

Three Northern Embers cycled to Oakham via Tilton on the Hill. A pie and pint at The Grainstore were we met the 4th Ember. Then home via Cold Overton.

Eastern Embers cycled North of Stamford to Bourne and back to Stamford.

Western Embers cycled in a loop on a warm and dry autumn day, meeting at Cosby and finishing, more or less, at the Red Lion Huncote.

There were many riders finishing off October and cycling miles.

Lockdown exercise in November.
