Founders Day

24 July 2022 - Vintage MCC Taverners Section

The Club made a special effort for the 50th anniversary of their Guinness World Record. A motorcycle kept in non-stop forward motion for over 24 hours. The three heroic riders and the Norton Commando attended, as well as some of the support team.

Left to right in this photo: Helen Ayriss, Dave Smith, Dave Scrivens, Mick Ayriss, (rider and owner of the Norton Commando), Sue Tindall, Eric Tindall, (rider, club chairman and organiser at the time), Phil Freestone, (rider). All now fully awake after catching up on their sleep, at last.

Always plenty to see at Founders Day; the autojumble, car park and, of course, catching sight of friends in the crowd.

Lots of rare, classic and cherished motorcycles on displays, in the arena and in the parking area.

As well as Club Members and Embers, we caught sight of Benny Caravelli, Martin Sentance, Graham Mills, Chris and Pete Vines. Missed Allan Jarman. Who else?

At 1.30pm an appreciative audience was treated to a couple of circuits of the arena by Mick Ayriss on his record-breaking Commando. Present club chairman, Mick Bemrose, interviews the other record-breakers, Eric Tindall and Phil Freestone. They wisely declined the invitation to demonstrate their rider-changing technique.
