2023 Cycling

Juneclick for this month's league table

Coach & Horses, Brixworth

Eight eager Embers set off from Market Harborough on a chilly June day. We soon warmed up after tackling the hill up to East Farndon and then hardly had a chance to cool down again.

After making our way to the Coach & Horses at Brixworth, we returned via Sweet Pea's Tearoom at Kelmarsh Hall, and yet more hills.

Starting June with many riding miles, mostly uphill.

Trent Lock, Sawley

One of those rare days when everything is perfect. Seven Embers on a flat and completely traffic free ride, with cafés going and returning from a hearty pub lunch enoyed alfresco.

Starting from Holme Pierrepont we had our banana break with coffee at the Boathouse Café where a sign in their window typifies their generosity. We chose the Trent Lock for our lunch stop and then called in at the Attenborough Nature Centre for ice creams to cool us down. And no punctures to spoil the day.

This week many Embers (including Carol and Tim, who cycled on Saturday) rode miles between them.

White Horse, Old

Eight Embers started from Harboro' and headed south, avoiding Brampton Way in favour of hilly roads. On a bright clear day, our reward for hill climbing was a clear view of wide vistas.

Despite a few "mechanicals" we reached the White Horse at Old in good time for lunch. Due to the "mechanicals" we returned on the Brampton Way. Velo John waited at the end having prefered the road route.

This week many Embers cycled miles between them.

The Crossing, Burton-on-Trent

Seven Embers set off north from Donisthorpe along the cycle route. After a brief pause to mend a puncture and for our banana break, we reached Burton-on-Trent in search of a pub.

We soon found our way to The Crossing where we enjoyed lunch. We returned by retracing our route, with the hope if an ice cream at the National Forest YHA, but they put the shutters up on seeing us coming.

This week Peter and Dave cycled their own route, so many Embers covered miles altogether (but apart).

Fly into July.
