Staunton Arms, Staunton in the Vale

Seven Embers met at Gunthorpe lock for our third consecutive week of following the Trent. Velo John took us on a suitable route that eventually arrived at a lunchtime pub.

After eating our fill and slaking our thirsts with excellent Bass beer at the Staunton Arms, we stopped for tea at Blue Diamond Garden and Home centre, East Bridgford. That's where the group went separate ways.

This week many Embers cycled miles including Dave and Wishbone cycling locally.

Plough Inn, Shustoke

Six of today's nine Embers cycled to Hartshill Hayes and so were well warmed up from their two mile climb. Our route retraced a track through Bentley Park Wood before turning south through Furnace End to the Plough Inn at Shustoke.

This week many Embers cycled miles between them.

Cross Keys, Kings Cliffe

This week Embers fragmented into three sub-groups. The official ride is reported by Simon.

Four riders set off from Weekley near Kettering towards Thrapston. Velo John, Derek, Nigel and Simon. Route master John led us on a merry dance on a mix of tarmac roads and several miles on muddy byways and bridleways. First up to Oundle and to the Coffee Tavern then onto King’s Cliffe to the Cross Keys pub and an excellent lunch. The weather stayed kind with little wind and not being too sunny all the way back to Weekley.

The official ride took their lunch at the Cross Keys where we have paused before but never managed to have lunch until today.

A group of five Embers gathered at Abbey Park and then made their way via Rothley Station to the Wheatsheaf Inn at Thurcaston where they were joined by Mick. Meanwhile Mush and Richard C also cycle locally with lunch at Meet'n'Eat in Shepshed.

This week many Embers cycled miles on three qualifying rides.

Royal Oak, Hurdlow

It was great to get up to Derbyshire again post Covid. Despite a bit of rain in the morning it was an enjoyable day out with a good lunch at The Royal Oak, Hurdlow.

This week many Embers cycled miles, some in Derbyshire, some in Kent and some locally on Thursday and Friday.

Will August be as wet?
