Queens Head, Billesdon
Seven Embers this week, guided by Velo John on a new route that included crossing fields and climbing Billesdon Coplow.
On reaching the Queens Head in Billesdon, John was forgiven. Thankfully there was a flatter and shorter route back by way of Rearsby with refreshments at Beardlseys Tearoom.
This week many Embers cycled miles between them.
Gynsills Farm, Glenfield
Ten Embers gathered at the
Royal Oak
in Kirby Muxloe — starting the day on the right foot wheel. Ricardo led the way from the back, directing us along the track from Anstey to Cropston, with a view of Bradgate Park across the reservoir.
We circled back to Gynsills Farm at Glenfield for a carvery. That kept our after-lunch ride short in case the forecast rain arrived. But we finished the day dry.
A leisurely ride with many Embers. Distance covered this week totalled miles.
Wharf Inn, Fenny Compton
I can empathise with Quasimodo but am crying “The Hills, The Hills”. Good new route, so thanks VJ, interesting coffee stop at Harley Equestrian and a nice pub The Wharf Inn at Fenny Compton.
I did not like the £13 charge to get to Canons Ashby coffee shop though.

Olde Cheshire Cheese, Longnor
It was good to get back to Hartington except for the roadworks in Ashbourne. We headed up the Tissington trail and then jinked across to Longnor for lunch at the Olde Cheshire Cheese pub.
The return journey certainly got the legs going with a steep hill that had most of us walking at some point. All told we did 1170ft of ascent in the day and most of it felt like that one steep hill. A last stop at the Blueberry Kiosk in Parsley Hay provided a much needed coffee.
