Red Lion, Huncote
After all the recent rain what a change today. Cool but bright sunshine all day. Eleven embers met at the Red Lion in Huncote and did a short ride to coffee at Acorns Coffee Shop on Burbage Common then back to the Red Lion for lunch. Many riders rode in from various locations so although the joint morning ride was short the overall totals were impressive with Graham leading the way with 15 miles just to get to Huncote.
.Eight embers took coffee at Thurlaston Garden Centre in the afternoon then made their way home. A great day out.
This week Embers cycled between them.
Sun Inn, Cottesmore
What a great day out. Cool but generally sunny in beautiful scenery; if only there were less hills. Mind you we were in Rutland so expected them. The Embers met at the Rutland Nursery Café near Manton then VJ led us on a route south of Rutland Water via Empingham and Exton to lunch at a new pub the Sun Inn at Cottesmore.
Fortified by the beer and food we scooted to Burley then split up in Oakham. Mush, Mick, Ben, Ricardo and Ian went back to Manton. Derek, VJ, Nigel and I tackled even more hills to get to our cars at Braunston going via Knossington.
This week Embers cycled between them.
Appleby Inn, Appleby Parva
A balmy day for barmy people. Eleven Embers met in Coalville and VJ pointed us south through Heather to the Shackerstone old railway station for a group photo and banana break. We all then headed west through Snarestone to lunch and refreshment at the Appleby Inn in Appleby Parva.
Nigel made everyone happy by getting the beer, so happy birthday from us all. The route back was direct to Heather then to a café in Coalville before all heading home. A fairly uneventful ride but really enjoyable and the weather was excellent for October.
This week Embers cycled including Carol and Tim in Lancashire.
Grey Goose, Gilmorton
A cool overcast start to a bright and sunny day. Eight embers took off from Kibworth and wound their way west to coffee at Fleckney Toast Office. Then onwards via Bruntingthorpe to lunch at a new pub The Grey Goose in Gilmorton. No birthdays this week so we had to buy our own beer, boo, but the meals were very good quality, hooray.
Suitably fortified and with the sun now firmly out we set off home via Peatling Magna and Arnesby then back to Kibworth. Another great day out.
Before leaving for home, Mush and Ben nipped round to see Carole and Warwick Pople. Warwick is fighting back against cancer and the effects of treatment, but is courageously hanging on.
On good days Embers cycled here and there.
Dixie Arms, Market Bosworth
How can a cold damp day be so enjoyable. The embers gathered at Desford which included Wishbone who arrived on his Triumph. After a relaxed mickey taking session eleven riders headed north then west. Grahame had already done 15 miles to get there with others starting closer. The outward route took in Merry Lees and Osbaston with the banana break at Barlestone.
Lunch was planned at the Red Lion in Market Bosworth but they had run out of food. After some quick work by phone, we ended up at The Dixie Arms. The Bass beer was good. The simple return journey via Cadeby and Kirkby Mallory to Desford completed the day except for the five riders that had biked in from foreign parts.
On the fifth Thursday of October Embers covered with one puncture.
