Wheatsheaf, Thurcaston

What a great day. The weather was much better than expected although we ended early knowing rain was on the way. Seven Embers ventured out; VJ, Nigel, Ben, Simon, Tim and Carol all met at Ratby. We travelled via Groby and Newtown Linford to Bradgate Park for coffee. The park looked lovely even this time of year. Then we moved on to Thurcaston (via Swithland) for lunch at the Wheatsheaf. Lunch was good and the beer better.

The return journey was short due to the forecast and we ambled back to Ratby through Anstey and Groby. We missed the rain so all in all a very enjoyable day.

This week many Embers cycled miles between them.

Old Red Lion, Welham

Mizzle not miserable described the weather today. Eight embers met at Market Harborough to work off the Christmas lunch from the day before. Taking back roads out of Harborough we travelled to Lubenham and Foxton with a banana break just outside Great Bowdon. From there onto Thorpe Langton and lunch at The Old Red Lion in Welham.

After lunch VJ and Derek split off for an extensive tour of Leicestershire before returning home. The other six of took a shorter route and returned to Market Harborough via Thorpe Langton and Great Bowdon. Carol and Tim then returned to their car at Gumley. A good day and no sign of any rain.

This week many Embers cycled miles between them.

Glen Parva Manor, Glen Parva

Nine Embers concluded their year-long pub crawl with a ride from the Royal Oak, Kirby Muxloe, to Glen Parva Manor. The route was diverted twice through floods, and by the tiome they rolled out of the Manor, the muddy tide was swelling up through a drainage gully at the entrance.

The year ended with many Embers cycling miles and keeping their feet dry.
