Appleby Inn, Appleby Parva
After the May Bank Holiday heatwave, June came in colder and wet. Embers had to decide whether to delay their ride.
Move your mouse pointer over the rain radar map above to see the big difference between the forecast and the actual rain that arrived a few minutes later.
With a strong vote to change our day, eight Embers kept dry on their Friday ride until they reached the Appleby Inn to quench their thirsts..
Without our usual guide to lead us astray, we kept to a familiar route this week.
This week many Embers cycled miles between them.
Toby Carvery, Binley
Small group of Embers cycled from Lutterworth to Coventry. We stopped on the Fosse Way for our usual banana break where we met a lady a few years older than us (is it possible?) who lived on a canal nearby.
After lunch at the Toby Carvery in Binley near Coventry, we cycled towards Brandon to join a field road which comes out facing Coombe Abbey. Finished off the day with ice cream at Stretton under Fosse farm shop.
- Peter Wright
Kathy and Nigel patiently waited for the Ride Leicester, Wartime Ride on Saturday to put in their miles.
They were waved off from Town Hall Square by Ben and met Bob Black, present secretary of the Leicester Phoenix MCC.
This week, many riders have claimed miles.
Red Lion, Hollington
Four Embers cycled to Mercia Marina from Worthington, to take advantage of the first good day this month. After coffees and discussion, sisx riders set out for the Red Lion at Hollington, famous as the place for pies. Despite ideal wether, good Bass beer and a huge choice of great food, we were almost the only customers.
Work it out, over 32 thousand combinations, even after some choices sold out
The ride back is usually easier than the ride out. Today neither direction was easy, with many hills through the hot afternoon bringing us out in a sweat. We were grateful for refreshments back at the marina.
This week many Embers cycled miles between them.
