Half a Hundred Rally
7th August 1987 - Les Lumps
When Lez Lumps hit fifty, he decided to celebrate with a rally. The rally took on the form of a Preferred Fancy Dress party.
Tiny Tim from the Moonrakers simply put a yellow paper headdress on and went as a sunflower. I didn't usually do fancy dress, but I worked out something. Unfortunately, nobody else there was such a fan of Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy as I was and didn't know why I was wandering around in a dressing gown with a towel on my shoulder.
I can't remember if the Half-A-Hundred T-Shirts were included in the cost, but they were pretty thin, so that may be the case. The 'Actor' Johnny Emms, (who wasn't appearing as a 'background artist' in Eastenders or Casualty that weekend), was 51 pretty close to Lez's 50th, so he got a special '+1' shirt.

The weather hadn't been very summery for the weekend, but at least it hadn't rained. This continued for the Sunday, and led to a not unpleasant ride home.
I did wonder if Lez had just held a party -inviting people to attend, rather than charging them, providing a patch, T-Shirt and allowing camping - whether so many people would have attended.
