Middlewicket Rally

The Middlewicket Rally is organised by "Goat" and the Silent Few MCC. They hold two rallies a year (at the end of March, and the middle of October) at a site near Burnley. This is a pre book only event and is usually sold out very quickly.

The only trouble is getting them to unlock the doors to let you out!

The 2009 March Rally was the 27th in the series, so they must be doing something right! It's a bit near to home for me, but I normally manage at least one a year.

The campsite is at a cricket club, hence the rally name, so the camping is on flat and well kept grass. We have access to the clubhouse bar. They have bands Friday and Saturday night and usually a support band Saturday afternoon.

The food at this rally is all home made and is served in the on site kitchen / dining room. Prices are very reasonable.

Most people seem to wander off into Town for Saturday, and I must admit that on a few occasions I have not actually made it back in time to see the bands or even get a drink on site! There is a Railway Club not far up the road which has cheap real ale and a sensible attitude about closing time. The only trouble is getting them to unlock the doors to let you out!

There seemed to be quite a selection of trikes this year, some with trailers and one with a caravan. Not really my type of transport, but impressive to look at.

The winner of the best bike was a fancy Harley, I wouldn't have liked the cleaning job he will have had on Sunday, because it snowed on Saturday night and the gritters were out! Roll on summer at least the rain is warmer!

Start of quotation I received an invite in May for the 30th Middle Wicket Rally, due to take place on 8/9 October 2O10.

Unfortunately, the invite states that this will be the last-ever Middle Wicket Rally. I shall miss it badly, as it's proven to be a real value-for-money event. End of quotation

Start of quotation The Silent Few Middle Wicket Rally has been great fun for the last 15 years - we too are sorry to see it come to an end, but would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has supported the club over the years and to thank you all for the many weekends of warmth and friendship you have brought with you - to make the rally such an enjoyable one.

We hope to see you all in October for this farewell event, which promises to be as good as every other.

See you all there, End of quotation
