Out Yer Tree Rally

Organised by Sunderland District MCC the first week in April at a site not far from Bishop Auckland.

The first time I actually camped at this rally was 2002; I had called in to visit a couple of times previously on my way elsewhere.

The pub had closed down and was in the process of being converted to a house. (What's the world coming to?)

I needed a localish rally to try out my newly re-built R90/S and this fit the bill. I went up Saturday morning, set the tent up and then gave the bike a good try out on the roads through Teesdale and across to Alston, up and down Hartside, a cup of tea in the café and then back to High Wham and the rally..

The rally was based at a pub, but there were bands playing Friday and Saturday in a marquee on the field. The best beer was to be had in the pub; only cans were on sale in the marquee (but at a reasonable price).

I had arranged to meet up with some of the Tee's Tornadoes and, as might be expected, met up with several of the Durham Panthers club as well.

The pub was very full until the bands started then it got a bit easier to get served! I actually went out to hear the main band and enjoyed it, but I took proper beer in my own tankard!

Catering was taken care of by the pub (proper food) or by a large van on site (burger and chips); however the bacon sarnies in the morning were very welcome.

In 2007 the pub had closed down and was in the process of being converted to a house. (What's the world coming to?) There was a separate tent which seemed to contain most of the pubs old fittings, including three piece suites etc to sit on and a proper bar with hand pumps!

The rally moved to a new site for 2008.
