Yorkshire Pudding Rally

Organized by Barnsley Bikers Club and held at Silverdale scout campsite near Silkstone, the rally is now run by M.A.G.

The camping area was huge and, as expected at a scout camp, full facilities were available. There was a bar on site and it was just a short walk down into Silkstone to a local pub near a fish and chip shop. What more could you want?

This campsite has also been used by the sidecar club for their Easter rally.

The unmade road leading into the site can be a bit of a problem if there has been much rain. It's firm enough but the puddles can be deeper than you expect!

A local rally for me, it had clashed with more distant events in past years, but I had heard good reports so decided to try it out. I had thought from past experience with local rallies that I wouldn't know anybody, so I arranged to meet up there with a fellow Dean Valley member Derek Faulkner. It turned out that I knew quite a few people on site, and down in the pub I bumped into the man who sold me my first bike (a Tiger Cub). I long since forgave him for that, so we had a good night reminiscing. His son still runs a Triumph, but powered by a Nourish-Weslake engine.

Start of quotation Three of us went, me 400 Bandit, Frank Whitham VX800 and Stuart (Stumpy) Bishop TZR 250.

Just the usual: Drink till you can't remember. The early part of Saturday was spent in a local pub call Ring o Bells. Just a couple while we get the bus to Barnsley. You guessed it - never caught that bus!

The Yorkshire Pud on entry was a good idea. Still got the badge. End of quotation
